CreateTO, in partnership with the City of Toronto, is seeking proposals globally from film and television production consortiums to develop and operate a purpose-built, state-of-the-art film, television, and digital media hub on Basin Street.
The Basin Media Hub, located on an 8.9-acre waterfront development parcel in Toronto’s Port Lands, is expected to provide up to 500,000 GFA of studio space and production offices, expanding much needed capacity within the sector.
To support the marketing of the property, CreateTO has retained Cushman & Wakefield as the broker of record and has initiated a two-stage open market procurement process.
CreateTO is seeking proponents with the vision and ability to design, finance, develop, manage, and operate the facility. CreateTO will also evaluate proponents based on their proposed design excellence, development acumen, employment generation impacts, and investment profile.
Toronto welcomes over 1,500 productions annually and is among the top five film and television production clusters in North America. In 2019, the City attracted a record-breaking $2.2 billion in production investment that employed more than 30,000 Torontonians.
Since productions resumed in July, the Toronto Film, Television and Digital Media Office has issued over 300 film permits across the city. This fall and winter season, Toronto is set to return to full operating capacity, with studio space demand being at a premium.
