On April 27, the City of Toronto, CreateTO and George Brown College announced they will work collaboratively to explore the feasibility of a post-secondary campus project in the Mount Dennis area.
This exercise is in response to the March 2021 Council direction requesting CreateTO to identify land in the Mount Dennis area suitable for a post-secondary campus. Simultaneously, the City reached out to Toronto-based post-secondary institutions to understand the interest in developing an academic presence in the community and George Brown College stepped forward.
A campus project represents a strong opportunity for the City and CreateTO to lead a transformational city-building initiative that could deliver not only a campus but also wide-ranging social, economic, environmental and cultural benefits to the Mount Dennis area, which is one of the most underserved areas of the city with respect to access to post-secondary education.
Planned due diligence work to be conducted by George Brown, CreateTO and the City will determine whether a collaborative project involving a post-secondary investment in Mount Dennis is feasible and how it could advance a range of city-building goals for the community.
Staff will report back to the CreateTO Board of Directors on the findings of the Campus Master Plan review and feasibility exercise in the third quarter of 2023. For more details, view the press release: bit.ly/3ORKVOO
