On April 25, CreateTO joined Mayor John Tory, Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão and Councillor Joe Cressy at 1117 Dundas Street West to announce a Mass Timber Pilot Program which will see 100 housing units constructed within a mid-rise mass timber building on the site, currently operating as a Toronto Parking Authority parking lot.
This 100-home project will take a new climate action approach to deliver affordable housing using mass timber and other low-carbon materials for building construction. The benefits of this approach include faster construction timelines, reduced cost due to efficiencies, reduced greenhouse gas and material emissions from the housing, transportation, and construction sectors and improved quality of life for future residents. The development is being designed to the highest tier of Toronto Green Standard Version 4.
The new homes at 1117 Dundas Street West will support the HousingTO 2020-2030 Action Plan objectives and create much-needed affordable housing options for a range of households. For more details, view the press release: https://bit.ly/3rP9a6n
