Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in the world and at CreateTO we have a passionate team of real estate specialists who mirror the diversity of the city. As stewards of the City’s land, we at CreateTO know how important diversity, equity, and inclusion is to achieve a liveable and affordable city for all, and it starts with our team.
CreateTO is constantly evolving as an organization and the agency is committed to fostering a place of belonging for all staff while also working to make the city more inclusive through the work we do.
In recent years we’ve bolstered our DEI efforts by establishing a DEI Committee, worked with a DEI consultant to establish a critical action plan to achieve equity within the organization including being an equal opportunity employer that is committed to identifying and removing barriers to employment, taken part in diverse comprehensive cultural training including Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation training, anti-racism and anti-bias training, and expanded our DEI efforts when it comes to community engagement.
We support a number of broader City of Toronto initiatives via real estate efforts to help make our city more inclusive, including the HousingTO 2020-2030 Action Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan, and the Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy.
CreateTO has developed expertise in executing community benefits through development agreements to ensure services are being procured from under-represented communities. CreateTO agreements include Community Benefit conditions, such as ten per cent social hiring and diverse procurement obligation to support job creation in local communities. Developers are required to prepare a community benefits plan, for City approval, to implement this requirement.
The agency also onboarded a Community Engagement Manager who plays an active role in increasing engagement with historically under-represented equity-deserving groups and assists in the development of an agency-wide approach to Indigenous engagement.
CreateTO is committed to continuing to foster a place of belonging for all staff while doing our part to ensure the same for Toronto through the work we do.
