ModernTO Community Information Sessions
The community engagement process for the first two sites within the ModernTO portfolio, 931 Yonge Street and 610 Bay Street / 130 Elizabeth Street, kicked off this summer with Community Pop-Ups and Community Information Sessions that took place on Tuesday, July 12 and Thursday, July 21.
The ModernTO program, adopted by City Council in October 2019, aims to modernize the City’s office space, save money, and strategically use its real estate assets. As part of this program, Corporate Real Estate Management (CREM), in collaboration with CreateTO, is reducing the City’s office portfolio from 55 to 15 locations. The ModernTO program will also unlock eight City-owned properties for city-building priorities, including affordable housing, City services, and other priorities. City Council approved the vision for these sites in April 2022.
The ModernTO site at 931 Yonge Street currently houses the Toronto Community Housing Corporation head office. The vision for the site includes:
- A mixed-income, high-rise residential development, including affordable ownership housing
- Public realm improvements surrounding the site
The ModernTO site at 610 Bay Street / 130 Elizabeth Street is home to the former Toronto Coach Terminal. The vision for the site includes:
- A mixed-use, high-rise, residential development with a mix of market and affordable units
- A new Toronto Paramedic Services Hub
- Commercial retail space and employment uses targeted for the medical sciences sector
- Preservation and adaptive reuse of the heritage bus terminal
- Public realm and streetscape improvements
Community engagement for the remaining ModernTO sites is anticipated to take place beginning in 2023.
