For the sixth year in a row, CreateTO provided the case for the Ted Rogers Real Estate Association Expand Your Empire Case Competition that took place on Saturday, January 27, 2024. CreateTO's Carlo Bonanni, Senior Vice President, Planning and Design and Melita Varga, Director, Client & Stakeholder Enablement were on the judging panel and this year, the case went beyond having the teams produce a residential and mixed-use product offering and asked for a product that would meet the needs of post-secondary school students, and new graduates with entry level income.
Congratulations to the winners and the eight teams who competed in the competition. Sapling Group from the University of Waterloo placed first in the competition. The winning team developed a replicable plan to deliver affordable and attractive student and new graduate housing that strongly reflects current market conditions and budget limitations.
CreateTO is excited to introduce the newest team members to support the reimagining of Old City Hall, one of Toronto’s most treasured civic landmarks. This initiative, on behalf of the City of Toronto, will deliver a bold, forward-looking strategy to guide the long-term vision for the historic site.

CreateTO joined ULI Toronto members and HousingNowTO on a tour of transit-oriented developments in Etobicoke, stopping at Bloor-Kipling and the Housing Now site at 5207 Dundas Street West, which is currently under construction and will deliver 725 new rental homes, including 218 new affordable rental homes. The project will also include retail uses, public spaces for community gatherings and events, and will be serviced by District Energy, supporting the City of Toronto's climate action objectives.
