CreateTO and TO Live have announced the shortlisted teams from Stage 1 of an international design competition to re-imagine the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts (STLC).
Located at 27 Front St. East in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood, the landmark building was constructed by the City of Toronto as a Centennial project in 1970 and has played an important role in the evolution of the City’s cultural fabric. In January 2020, Toronto City Council endorsed the re-imagining of the STLC.
The re-imagined STLC will create a cultural ecosystem where renewed cultural spaces, innovative spaces and gathering spaces will combine into a dynamic cultural and civic hub and anchor the Front Street cultural corridor along with Meridian Hall and Berczy Park.
CreateTO is managing the procurement process for this TO Live project and released a Request for Statement of Qualifications (RFSQ) on October 14, 2022, inviting design teams to participate in the first stage of the two-stage design competition.

Toronto City Council will consider the results of the design competition following the selection of a winning design team from Stage 2 of the competition, along with a business case in the second quarter of 2023.
