Project Overview

Amsterdam Bridge Reopening Event

Date: Sunday May 31, 2026

Time: 11:30am

Where: Harbourfront Centre

All are welcome!

Located in the heart of Toronto’s central waterfront and a prominent feature of Harbourfront Centre’s 10-acre campus, the Amsterdam Bridge is a steel cable footbridge that was gifted to the City of Toronto by the Mayor of Amsterdam to mark the 1974 recognition of Toronto and Amsterdam as twin cities.

CreateTO, in partnership with the City of Toronto and Harbourfront Centre is leading the rehabilitation of the bridge; an iconic place-making feature and important connection point that has been closed since early 2021 due to disrepair.

A condition assessment was completed in 2025, and construction is now underway to repair and safely re-open the bridge to help connect residents and visitors to the many restaurants, activities and open spaces Harbourfront Centre and the City’s waterfront has to offer.

This work will occur from early March through May with a reopening on May 31st, 2026.
