Project Overview
Currently a City-owned parking lot, 9 Shortt Street is set to be repurposed as a mixed-income, transit-oriented community with affordable housing in the Fairbank neighbourhood.
The development, adjacent to the TTC's Eglinton Crosstown LRT, is proposed to feature 467 new purpose-built rental homes, including approximately 140 affordable rental homes, within two buildings on site.
A proposed mid-block connection will separate the two buildings, providing much-needed space for the public to relax and connect in a pedestrian plaza.
9 Shortt Street will also include accessible design features to support barrier-free spaces for people of all ages and abilities.
Community members are invited to join the project team at a community pop-up to learn more about the site and provide feedback. The pop-up will take place ahead of a community meeting to be held in September.
Community Pop-up Information:
Date: Tuesday, August 19th, 2025
Location: On site at 9 Shortt Street
Time: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Background
In 2021, City Council directed that the site be considered for the development of affordable housing.
CreateTO engaged architectural services for 9 Shortt Street in 2023. A zoning submission application was filed with the City in early August 2025.
